Major Gifts Officer

Position Summary
The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) must be an experienced all-round fundraiser with a proven track record who wants to join a young, fast-growing non-profit. Successful applicants will have strong people and composition skills, experience fund-raising in communities of color, plus a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience with

  • Major gifts - researching, identifying, cultivating and soliciting major donors;
  • Direct mail – including creating and testing various lists and pitches;
  • Events – planning and managing event logistics, as wells other cultivating donors and sponsors with the DOD; and
  • Experience with government fundraising a plus but not required.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years’ development experience, with an emphasis in the major donor arena;
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented and have proven experience in securing major gifts;
  • Strong verbal, written interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment;
  • Experience with staff management and program oversight in a progressive nonprofit setting is preferred;
  • Public speaking experience or skills;
  • Ability to represent the organization in a variety of settings; and
  • Exceptional strength in the area of donor relations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a program to integrate fundraising cultivation and solicitation into GPAC’s major gifts solicitation program (primarily, but not exclusively for donors of $5,000 or more);
  • Work strategically with Board of Directors, National Advisory Board and Development Committee, Executive Director and Managing Director to identify prospective donors nationwide; responsible for stewardship of donors to GPAC;
  • Develop solicitation, stewardship and cultivation strategies for Board, staff and other volunteers to secure major donors and contributions;
  • Assist with fundraising events logistics and support, and other cultivation opportunities within the Development Department;
  • Travel extensively around the country for major donor visits and major donor solicitation; and
  • Serve as the fundraising coordinator for GPAC to ensure that strategies and approaches to individuals, events, and specific markets solicit the maximum contribution as well as maximum potential from donors for GPAC programs.
