Director of Strategic Programs

Position Description

    The The Director of Strategic Programs will be responsible for coordinating the activities of all programmatic initiatives of the organization including management of program staff, tracking deliverables, project management, coordinating activities with partner organizations, strategic advice and planning for workplan and strategic plan goals, and regular reports on program progress to Executive Director.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years progressively responsible experience in nonprofit programs or project management
  • 3+ years supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Access, Outlook; Basic HTML knowledge and elementary web design. Experience with graphic design programs desirable but not required.
  • Ability to travel if necessary
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple programs with ease and enthusiasm
  • Ability to track important details while keeping larger strategic vision in mind
  • Experience in communities of color or programs serving/addressing youth of color is required
  • Position Responsibilities:

      Management

    • Oversee program staff - track deliverables and deadlines, evaluate performance and progress toward project goals
    • Supervise and evaluate teh effectiveness and track progress for existing and new programs related to children and youth, at-risk populations, young people of color, and LGBT individuals
    • Address performance issues with programmatic staff
    • Coordinate programmatic reports to Executive Director
    • Ensure coordination between program and communications staff regarding external partners and stakeholder communications
    • Participate in hiring of program staff
    • Represent organization at local and national events
    • Programs

    • Lead programmatic activities in the absense of program managers
    • Establish programmatic connections in minority communities
    • Lead various initiatives related to children and youth, at-risk populations, young people of color, and LGBT individuals.
    • Present organization’s work to partner organizations
    • Recruit and maintain contacts with key influencers - individuals and organizations - as spokespeople for programmatic initiatives.
    • Coordinate training workshops and national campaigns
    • Design & producee, with communications staff, program collateral
    • Organizational Strategy

    • Propose and evaluate new programmatic initiatives
    • Design and implement long-range strategic plans for program success
    • Assure that materials for meetings and training sessions and other activities of the organization are prepared accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Assist in fundraising for programmatic initiatives
  • Assist in drafting and production of grant proposals
  • Identify new funding sources for programs
  • Maintain contact with individual donors on program progress
  • Solicit donations where required
