Why bring the GenderTOUR to your community?

In the last year:

  • Defendants accused of killing transgender Latina teen Gwen Araujo of CA, after discovering that she born biologically male, use a "gay panic defense" claiming they experienced temporary insanity after discovering they had had sexual relations with a transgender woman.
  • Joel Robles, a 29-year-old transgender woman was stabbed to death last year; her murderer, Estanislao Martinez, will be a free man in just four years.
  • Ronald Paris, Jr. was sentenced to 30 years after slamming his 3-year-old son, Ronnie, into a kitchen wall and fatally wounding him in an effort to prevent little Ronnie from being a 'sissy.'
  • From classrooms to boardrooms, from reservations to the city streets - transcending narrow gender stereotypes can get you or your loved ones harassed, fired, or even killed. Change won't come quickly - this struggle is just beginning.

Riki Wilchins focuses on how discrimination and violence caused by gender stereotypes affect us all -- gay and straight, feminist and transgender, youth and of-color.
